On-Going/Special Events

St. John's E-Mail Newsletter: Disciple Connections - In addition to the Weekend Disciple, which is published each Sunday, St. John's also sends out an e-mail version of their newsletter — Disciple Connections — twice a month, along with the occasional special announcements (such as death/funeral notifications). If you would like to start receiving this publication, please send your e-mail address with a request to be added to the mailing list to Chris Cockrell (c2cockrell@stjohns-abq.org).

The Storehouse - Let's keep up our momentum in November by filling our shopping cart in the Welcome Center with canned tuna, chicken, and other canned meats for The Storehouse. Your generosity is making a difference in our community, and we thank you!

Boy Scouts Luminaria Fundraiser - St. John's own Boy Scout Troop 286 is having a fundraiser to help support the troop and enable scouts to attend summer camp. They will be selling luminarias until December 14th, at 8:00 PM! Luminarias are $8/dozen, with an optional setup service on December 24th for $1.50/dozen and a take down service on December 26th for $1.50/dozen. If you would like to purchase luminarias to help decorate your home and support the Boy Scouts, you can download a Boy Scout Luminaria Fundraiser Flyer/Order Form Here, or call in your order to Joe at 573-6448. Thanks for your support!

Events Happening This Week
(November 24 - November 30):

UMW Festivities - Ladies—please join us for a special December evening meeting on Thursday, December 4th, at 6:30 PM in Rooms 149/151. Dinner will be served by Chef Tim, and entertainment will be provided. Our annual installation of officers for 2015 will also be conducted. The cost per person for dinner is $11, and we want to encourage each of you to invite a spouse and/or guest. Reservations are due by Wednesday, November 26th, and can be made by contacting Lynn Pate (269-0415 [cell], 821-9169 [home], or handlpate@msn.com). We hope you'll join us for this festive occasion!

Hanging of the Greens - It's that time of year again—time to decorate the church for Advent...and we need your help! On Saturday, November 29th, starting at 9:00 AM, we need any and all helping hands to get the church ready for Advent. Anyone who is interested in assisting, please contact Becky Ostroski (702-480-5144 or rpayne77@yahoo.com) to let her know. Thanks!

Welcome Center Kiosk - As you can see, building of the Welcome Center Kiosk is happening! Plans are to have it up and operational by November 30th. Volunteers are needed to work in the kiosk for the following shifts: 8:00 AM—9:30 AM, 9:30 AM—11:00 AM, and 11:00 AM—12:30 PM each Sunday. Come by the Welcome Center to signup or contact Donna at donnabruce@comcast.net.

FPA is On It's Way! - As "promised" (pun intended), volunteer sign-ups for the next Family Promise rotation has begun! Stop by the Welcome Center on Sundays to sign-up to help with our next hosting week, December 7th - 14th. As we celebrate Advent, what a great opportunity to help families who are waiting to find affordable housing right here at our church. To learn how you can help, call Dave Young (292-6528) or Tony Bryce (881-6701).

Angel Tree Ministry - The Angel Tree Ministry, which provides Christmas gifts to children whose parents are incarcerated, is looking for helpers early! St. John's will be providing gifts for approximately 100 children this year, and, with Thanksgiving falling so late in November, our delivery "window of opportunity" is quite small. On November 30th and December 7th, please bring the wrapped gifts back to the church (we could use volunteers to help with the gift collection on these days as well). We'll also need help in getting the gifts sorted and delivered to the children later in December. If you are able to help in one (or more) of these areas, please call Kathy Scherlacher at 823-6692. Thanks for considering this, and thanks to everyone at St. John's who, year after year, pick their Angel from the tree, provide gifts for the children, and make this a most special and successful Holiday ministry.

Events Happening Next Week
(December 1 - December 7):

Quintessence Concert - Join "Quintessence: Choral Artists of the Southwest" and Artistic Director Matthew Greer for festive music of the season for chorus and brass, including traditional carols and music of Daniel Pinkham, Healey Willan, John Rutter, and others. The singers of Quintessence will be joined by special guests—the Concert Choir from Eisenhower Middle School, directed by Nicholas Prior. The concert will be held on Sunday, December 7th, at 3:00 PM at St. John's. Tickets are $6 for students, $12 for seniors, and $18 regular; they can be purchased at the door or at the Quintessence Website. Quintessence is an ensemble-in-residence of St. John's.
