On-Going/Special Events

Stories of St. John's - If you would like to read about how the congregation of St. John's is loving God, loving people, changing lives, and being changed, then please visit the new "Stories of St. John's" Page. Currently, you can read the beautiful testimony given by Michelle Bane.

St. John's E-Mail Newsletter: Disciple Connections - In addition to the Weekend Disciple, which is published each Sunday, St. John's also sends out an e-mail version of their newsletter — Disciple Connections — twice a month, along with the occasional special announcements (such as death/funeral notifications). If you would like to start receiving this publication, please send your e-mail address with a request to be added to the mailing list to Chris Cockrell (c2cockrell@stjohns-abq.org).

VBS Registration is Now Open! - Shine Vacation Bible School will be held July 14—18, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM here at St. John's. Each day, kids will dive into their Bibles, and see how Jesus showed us to trust in God, be humble leaders, and help others! We will sing, drum (yes, drum!), craft, and play while learning about how Jesus changed the world. Lunch and snacks are included in this free camp. Each family will receive a free CD with all the camp music on it when registering. Pick yours up when dropping off the registration form at the church office during normal business hours during the week, on Sunday mornings, or Wednesday nights. Or register online and pick up your CD the next time you're at the church! (CDs are one per family.) For more information, contact Brandie Spletzer (883-9717 [ext. 133] or bspletzer@stjohns-abq.org).

SMART Camp Registration is Now Open! - Our annual Summer Music, Art, Rhythm, and Theater (SMART) Camp is July 14-18. The camp is for rising 1st—6th graders and is open to the community. (Children must be 6-years-old prior to September 1st, 2014.) The camp will run from 12:30 PM—4:30 PM at St. John's. VBS will be held during the morning hours as a separate program. Each day, the children will follow a rotating schedule of sessions in various musical activities, including vocal, instrumental, creative movement, drama, and art. During the week, children will prepare a musical, to be presented at the end of camp on Friday and Sunday morning, July 20th. This summer, our musical honors our beautiful Sandias and explores some of the Mountaintop Moments found in Scripture. Many of the most significant Biblical events happened in places of extreme terrain—deserts, rivers, and mountains. Sounds a lot like New Mexico, right? Register early, reduced rates end June 16th! Enrollment is limited and camp fills up quickly. For more information, contact Pauleta Hendrickson (883-9717 [ext. 137] or newsound@stjohns-abq.org).

You can access the Lenten Prayer Blog Here. (If you want to contribute to the blog, you will need to sign in through your google account.)

Events Happening This Week
(April 14 - April 20):

Easter Candy Donations - Coming up on Holy Saturday, April 19th, the Youth Ministry will be hosting a Nocturnal Easter Egg Hunt for our students before the prayer vigil. We are looking for candy we can stuff in the eggs for our students. If you can donate some, please drop it off in front of Jarrod's office when you have time.

Walk the Prayer Labyrinth - Walking a labyrinth has been a practice of contemplative Christians since the middle ages. St. John's is pleased to be able to offer this experience. Be sure to make this a part of your Holy Week journey. The labyrinth will be available in the Family Life Center from 7:00 AM—7:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; and from 7:00 AM—6:00 PM on Wednesday.

No Wednesday Night Live This Week! - Due to Holy Week, there will be no WNL programs this week, April 16th. Everything will be back up and running the following week, however. On April 23rd, you are invited to come to all the usual programs as well as the next installment of the "Death and Dying" program, with a meal featuring Chicken Fried Steak with a little lambs option of Star-Shaped Fish Sticks or Chicken Tenders.

Good Friday Worship Service - Plan to join us at 7:30 PM on Good Friday, April 18th, in the Sanctuary for "A Meditative and Musical Journey with Jesus to Jerusalem and the Cross," featuring the Sanctuary Chancel Choir, the Sonrise Youth Choir, and the Contemporary Worship Ministry. Through scripture, meditation, and music, we will walk in Jesus' footsteps and venture to understand how Jesus saw the journey to Jerusalem from the much larger perspective of the purposes of God.

Easter Prayer Vigil - Starting at 6:00 PM on Holy Saturday, April 19th, St. John's will be having an Easter Prayer Vigil that will last through the night and into Easter morning. We will have around 12 different interactive and reflective prayer stations for you to help focus your mind and soul on the needs of our church, community, and world as we prepare for the Great Resurrection. Drop in between the hours of 6:00 PM—11:00 PM to get immersed in the Spirit. (It takes about an hour to go through all 12 stations.)
