On-Going/Special Events

St. John's E-Mail Newsletter: Disciple Connections - In addition to the Weekend Disciple, which is published each Sunday, St. John's also sends out an e-mail version of their newsletter — Disciple Connections — twice a month, along with the occasional special announcements (such as death/funeral notifications). If you would like to start receiving this publication, please send your e-mail address with a request to be added to the mailing list to Chris Cockrell (c2cockrell@stjohns-abq.org).

Prayer Chain - Several years ago, the Women's Ministry formed an email prayer chain. At this time, there are 60+ prayer warriors from St. John's, including our ministerial staff. This prayer group welcomes your requests. One important requirement—if the prayer request is for someone other than yourself, you must have that person's permission. We must respect their privacy, just as we keep the request confidential. Requests may be sent to mapalook@comcast.net or telephoned to 768-7013.

Food Ministry: Help Wanted - The St. John's Food Ministry is looking for hardworking, positive, and fun individuals to work part-time with the kitchen crew. Kitchen experience is a plus, but not required. See Chef Tim for details. Chef Tim can be reached in the kitchen, SonShine Café, or his office on Sunday mornings. He can also be reached at 883-9717 (ext. 141) or tnuzum@stjohns-abq.org.

Barrett Foundation ChariTEA - The Second Annual Barrett Foundation ChariTEA will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27th, from 11:00 AM—2:00 PM. All proceeds will go to Barrett House, Albuquerque's only homeless shelter for women and children. Lunch, tours, entertainment, door prizes, and a silent auction will all be available during the event. Special guest: Archbishop Sheehan. Host: Rachel Michaels of 99.5 Magic FM. Tickets/Information can be found on the Barrett Foundation Website or by calling 246-9244.

Blood Drive - The Bloodmobile will be here at St. John's on Sunday, November 2nd. Please consider donating blood at this time. If you have any questions, please call Linn & Mike Furnish at 884-6626.

Fall Price Changes in Food Ministry - In order to keep up with the rising cost of food and general kitchen expenses, the Food Ministry will be instituting some small price changes starting September 1st. Omelets at the Omelet Bar will be $5, and Wednesday Night Live pricing will be the same as the First Sunday Lunch as follows: $10 for adults, $5 for youth 12-17 years old, $2 for children 6-11 years old, and free for children under 6 years old. The finances of the Food Ministry are outside the church budget and are taken as a whole for the year, so as a ministry, we strive to charge what is best for each event. Thank you to all who have and continue to support the Food Ministry. Our mission is like Jesus' charge to Peter after the resurrection — "Do you love me….feed my sheep."

NewSound Children's Choir Registration - Registration for the 2014-2015 NewSound Children's Music Ministry program is now open! Children who participate in NewSound Choirs have fun singing, playing instruments, and developing their musical skills. Children learn that singing is both fun and an act of worship. They learn to share their musical skills as worship leaders by participating frequently in worship services and other community activities. NewSound is for kids age 4 (as of Sept. 1, 2014) through 5th grade. For more information and on-line registration, please visit the NewSound Children's Music Ministry Website. Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons from 5:30 PM – 6:15 PM in the upstairs education wing beginning Sept. 3rd. We welcome new members throughout the year, so please join us! There is no registration fee for NewSound, however the program does have a "cost." We ask guardians to contribute 1-2 hours per semester to help NewSound. See the registration form for volunteer options. NewSound Family Music will continue this Fall. Stay tuned for more details!
