On-Going/Special Events

St. John's E-Mail Newsletter: Disciple Connections - In addition to the Weekend Disciple, which is published each Sunday, St. John's also sends out an e-mail version of their newsletter — Disciple Connections — twice a month, along with the occasional special announcements (such as death/funeral notifications). If you would like to start receiving this publication, please send your e-mail address with a request to be added to the mailing list to Chris Cockrell (c2cockrell@stjohns-abq.org).

Prayer Chain - Several years ago, the Women's Ministry formed an email prayer chain. At this time, there are 60+ prayer warriors from St. John's, including our ministerial staff. This prayer group welcomes your requests. One important requirement—if the prayer request is for someone other than yourself, you must have that person's permission. We must respect their privacy, just as we keep the request confidential. Requests may be sent to mapalook@comcast.net or telephoned to 768-7013.

Blood Drive - The Bloodmobile will be here at St. John's on Sunday, November 2nd. Please consider donating blood at this time. If you have any questions, please call Linn & Mike Furnish at 884-6626.

Each Wednesday dinner has an option for the kids, or Little Lambs, as we call them as well—this week will be Chicken Tenders. The cost for adults is $10, children (ages 12-17) are $5, children (ages 6-11) are $2, and children under 6 eat for FREE. What a deal! The meal is open to everyone, whether you are partaking of one of the great classes or not. See you and your family there! For more information on WNL classes and future menus, visit the Wednesday Night Live Page of this website.

Find out how to use free resources on the web, such as FamilySearch.org, USGenWeb, and the Albuquerque Public Library website, to delve into your family history. This workshop will be hands-on, so please bring to the program a laptop computer or other device that is Wi-Fi compatible.

Kids' Bible Club is Back! - Kids' Bible Club is back! We'll play games, sing, perform skits, and learn, learn, learn about the Bible! Ages 3 and up are welcome to attend. NewSound Children's Choir - Children who participate in NewSound Choirs have fun singing, playing instruments, and developing their musical skills. Children learn that singing is both fun and an act of worship. NewSound is for kids age 4 (as of Sept. 1, 2014) through 5th grade. For more information and on-line registration, please visit the NewSound Children's Music Ministry Website. Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons from 5:30 PM – 6:15 PM in the upstairs education wing. The book fair and registration will begin at 8:30 AM, followed by the study at 9:30 AM. Please bring your Bible and the study book, if you have one. Lunch will be served by Chef Tim at a cost of $10 per person, and the study will conclude at 2:30 PM. To make reservations, please contact Lynn Pate (821-9169 or handlpate@msn.com) by September 25th. Walk to End Alzheimer's - Research is the key that will unlock the disease of Alzheimer's! The Memory Café is again participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's on Sept. 27th at Civic Plaza and welcomes anyone who would like to join them. You can find the team "Memory Café at St. John's" on the 2014 Walk to End Alzheimer's Website or contact Lynn at 271-0746.

Hands-On Work: Please Join Us! - The children of the church have volunteered to work at Roadrunner Food Bank on Saturday, Sept. 27th, from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. All church families and kids (age 6 and up) are invited to join and work at the food bank restocking shelves, portioning food, and doing other tasks. Please bring a sack lunch; we'll take a break mid-way through to eat in the lobby at the food bank. Let Brandie know if you'll be attending (883-9717, ext. 133) so we can give the food bank an accurate number count, and so we can let you know the details. This is a great opportunity for our kids to see some of their favorite adults helping out in the community!

Barrett Foundation ChariTEA - The Second Annual Barrett Foundation ChariTEA will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27th, from 11:00 AM—2:00 PM. All proceeds will go to Barrett House, Albuquerque's only homeless shelter for women and children. Lunch, tours, entertainment, door prizes, and a silent auction will all be available during the event. Special guest: Archbishop Sheehan. Host: Rachel Michaels of 99.5 Magic FM. Tickets/Information can be found on the Barrett Foundation Website or by calling 246-9244.

Omelet Bar - Come by the SonShine Café on Sunday, Sept. 28th, for your made-to-order omelet. Due to rising food costs, starting this month, the Omelet Bar will now be $5 per omelet. Still a great deal! We will continue our longer hours, serving from 7:45 AM– 12:45 PM. Choose your ingredients from more than a dozen choices of meats, cheeses, vegetables, and herbs, and our talented omelet flippers will make you a 2 or 3 whole-egg or egg-white omelet for the low price of $5. Breakfast and a show! You'll flip out!

Open Mic Night - After our first successful Open Mic Night in August, we are scheduling more of them periodically throughout the year. The next one is set for Friday, October 3rd, from 7:00 PM—9:00 PM in Room 260. Come join us for an evening of music, poetry, and various art forms. If you have a song, a talent, a routine, a poem, or some other talent that you would like to share with a very kind and receptive audience, please e-mail Jarrod Conyers (jconyers@stjohns-abq.org) your submission idea by Sunday, Sept. 28th.
