“Move for Stillness” Yoga
Join us on Wednesday nights from 6-7 during Wednesday Night Live! Instructor: Alli (Costello) Newsom. To deal with debilitating running injuries, Alli started practicing yoga about 10 years ago. It helped her regain an active lifestyle. Passing on the healing that yoga provided became her passion and her reason for teaching. She received her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification from Bhava Yoga in 2015. Classes will have a theme each week. We will discuss fundamentals and use them in a guided sequence. Alli encourages an interactive class, where laughter & community affirmation is the goal. Props and plenty of modification will be offered. Bring a yoga mat if you have one, and clothes that allow for movement. Yogis: Sometimes a “beginner’s mind” can completely change your practice. Class is free, but a love offering will be taken each week that will go toward Hurricane Harvey relief. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Opening UP the Bible
How to get beyond its old bloody weirdness. There are many of us there are put-off by some of the stories we read in God’s word. The Bible is often criticized for propagating a world view that is outdated, violent, and primitive. What, as people of faith, do we do with that? Let’s explore this and other themes as we dig into the Bible together this Fall. There is a whole progressive counter narrative happening among even some of the most challenging passages I hope you discover. This is going to be a fun adventure for first time or long time Bible readers. Join us Every Wednesday night this Fall from 6:00-7:00 in Room 260. Bring your Bibles.
NewSound Children’s Choirs
NewSound Choirs resume on September 5! You can register online, or use one of the brochures found throughout the church. NewSound is for children ages 4—5th grade. (We have a family music program for younger children and their caregivers, too.) NewSound provides a weekly opportunity for children to discover and develop their innate musical abilities. NewSound participants engage in both choral and instrumental music, as well as learning about the Christian faith. All choirs meet Wednesdays from 5:15 PM — 6:00 PM. For more information, contact Therese Macali (email@example.com or 440-344-3011) or go to musicatstjohns.org.
NewSound Family Music
Our NewSound Family Music is back with more offerings for children and their families. NewSound Family Music is for children 3 months—age 4 and adult caregivers. These classes allow adults and children to participate in music through singing, chanting, moving, dancing, listening, and playing simple instruments. Children and adults who participate in musical activities develop a lifelong musical bond. Registration and schedule information will be available soon!
