Food & Garden Ministry
St John’s Food Ministry continues to serve the people of Albuquerque--approximately 500 people per month!--with hot meals prepared in our kitchen. Our Director and Head Chef Tim Nuzum cooks meals that are supplemented by the fresh herbs and produce grown in our garden to feed the food insecure in our community. Organizations we provide meals for include HopeWorks, Breaking Bread, and Zuni Elementary School.
Do you have a surplus of fresh produce from your garden that you would like to donate to St. John's to feed the hungry? If so, please contact Chef Tim at tnuzum@stjohns-abq.org.

Garden Ministry
Mission
-
Follow the tenant of service expressed by John Wesley: ”Do all the good you can, for as many you can, for as long as you can”
-
Provide a means for the St. John’s congregation to support the food ministry outreach to those suffering from food insecurity
-
Encourage congregation and neighborhood (including Zuni Elementary School) in gardening skills and service opportunities
-
Have a mindset of gratitude and reciprocity for the earth and for the food that it gives us, and we can only feed ourselves and others through participation in that relationship. God takes care of the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. We have faith that God will care for us, but when our actions are in alignment with God’s will, we actively tend the soil and soul to feed those in need physically and spiritually.
What Happens To The Food That Is
Grown In the Garden?
Herbs and vegetables that we harvest from the garden are used in the meals that the Food Ministry prepares for the community. Other than being nutritious and delicious, using produce from our garden helps defray costs, provides the freshest of produce as ingredients to feed the community.
Zuni Elementary is right across from the street from the church, so we are communicating with them to work together on gardening programs this fall.
