Did you know we have nearly 60 members who are considered "Homebound?" These members have served the church in various ways in years past and we are fortunate to have them as members of our St. John’s family today! Nearly all these members have a Homebound contact - some relationships going back over the years. The contact person reaches out, with phone calls, cards and in-person visits and keeps the Congregational Care office (Rev. Molly) updated once a quarter.
Pre-Covid, we also had an active Homebound Communion Ministry, in which lay persons would take the consecrated elements to the Homebound members who wished to partake. Nancy Adams and Mary Chapek served faithfully for some time and are eager to begin again. Along with Nancy and Mary, homebound visitor Dee Billops also takes Communion to the people she visits monthly.
WHAT WE NEED NOW:
Another team or teams of two people who would like to be Homebound Communion Servers. This will allow us to share the ministry and keep visits closer geographically. The new team/s will have training and Communion Service will begin the 2nd Sunday in September and then be offered again on the 2nd Sunday in December.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO RECEIVE COMMUNION AT HOME?
If you are a Homebound member and you would like to receive Holy Communion once a quarter, beginning in September 2024, please talk with your Homebound contact person or call the church office and we will add you to our list. Call 505 883-1441 ext. 127 or email care@stjohns-abq.org.
